Paramount Is Having Fun With Henry Cavill's Mission: Impossible Mustache

Has there ever been a mustache more reported on in movie history than the one attached to Henry Cavill's face? This writer doesn't think so and you can hardly blame anyone for being obsessed with the thing. Not only does it just happen to be a really good looking mustache, but it's also partly the reason for some very high profile reshoots of Justice League. It may have been the ire of Warner Bros'. wallet, but Paramount has no problem celebrating the 'stache that will be gracing Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Paramount knows that there are two things that have dominated the conversation around Mission: Impossible - Fallout: 1) Tom Cruise breaking his ankle in the middle of a stunt and 2) Henry Cavill's mustache. The first one caused a bit of strife when it happened, forcing filming to go on a brief hiatus while Cruise healed up, but Paramount is all about cashing in on that sweet stache.

In honor of star Henry Cavill's birthday. Paramount posted a gif to their Twitter page of Henry Cavill and his mustache trapped in a never-ending loop of furry splendor. The 'stache goes on forever and ever and ever, proving that Paramount knows exactly what Cavill's fan-base wants to see from them.

This tweet gets a bit more interesting when you take into account the controversy caused by this very same mustache last year. As people may already know, Justice League was in some trouble last year that involved reshoots meant to change the tone of the movie. Many of these reshoots involved Henry Cavill's Superman, but the problem was that Cavill had already grown a mustache for his role in Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Allegedly, Warner Bros. asked Paramount if Cavill could shave the 'stache, with Warner offering to pay for a CGI replacement in Mission: Impossible. Paramount said no, leading to Warner having to digitally remove the facial hair for Justice League, something that's apparently much harder to do than adding it. Infamously, it did not turn out well for Warner or Superman's face.

The mustache may have proved to be a problem for Warner. Bros. but Paramount is riding that sucker all the way to July 27, 2018, when Mission: Impossible - Fallout arrives in theaters. Clerks 3 Isnt Happening Because Of One Cast Member

It's been four years since Kevin Smith told the world that Clerks 3 was a go, and that he'd already gotten financing for the movie. While Kevin Smith has directed Yoga Hosers along with a slew of episodes of superhero shows for the CW in the time since the announcement was made, Clerks 3 has never come together, and this weekend at a Q&A for the Fatman on Batman podcast, Kevin Smith explained more about why it hasn't ever happened. According to the director, one of the cast members simply didn't want to do it. He said:

There was going to be, I wrote it and I wanted to do it, but one of the cast didn't want to do it and without that person we can't make it, so no. So I might publish it as a comic book script instead.

Kevin Smith had previously revealed that Jeff Anderson, who played Randal Graves in both Clerks and Clerks 2, was the holdout in regards to making Clerks 3, but this time he elaborated a bit more, explaining it wouldn't be the same movie without Randal. It's also interesting that Kevin Smith is now talking about turning the premise of the movie into a comic book script. Doubtless, fans of Smith would prefer the big screen endeavor, but a comic book script release is better than nothing, especially since a script for the project has already been written and should be shared with the universe.

Jeff Anderson hasn't done a ton of acting work of late. The last big project he was in was Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which hit theaters back in 2008. Reportedly he's filming something called NASA Seals, so he's still acting at least a little, but he reportedly backed out of Clerks 3 after the movie already had an $8 million budget and was set to move forward. Kevin Smith has also that once Randal was no longer a part of the movie, but that "it's Randal's flick" and it would be impossible to make the movie without the character.

Meanwhile, Kevin Smith has said that the Mallrats sequel, Mallbrats, is also having problems coming together, in this case, in terms of finding a place to house and create the concept. What was originally a movie concept got rewritten as a TV series, and Smith recently said that various networks and streaming services didn't bite. The next Jay and Silent Bob movie still seems to be moving forward, and during the same Q&A event in Prince George, British Columbia (via Comic Book), Kevin Smith definitively stated the project is supposed to move into production starting this coming August. Kevin Smith also filmed Hollyweed quietly in 2016. He also said of that project:

We're doing a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and it's called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. It's us, it's me and Jay so it's not really strictly a reboot in the way that people think of a reboot. If you remember Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back it was a movie in which Jay and Silent Bob found out Hollywood was making a movie about them so they went cross country to Hollywood to stop that from happening.

The news comes a few months after Kevin Smith had a heart attack, a widowmaker attack that could have killed him, but didn't. Smith has previously said that smoking pot helped to save his life, and he's spent the last few months losing weight and working on his blood pressure. it's nice to see him moving forward and thinking about future projects again, even if Clerks 3 isn't getting off the ground. A lot of things changed for a lot of our favorite heroes in Avengers: Endgame. Some heroes died, others exited the main stage in other ways. We knew the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was going to be something quite different, and now we know many of the ways those changes will manifest. However, one often overlooked Avengers is Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk, and the events of Endgame have also changed his life in a major way.

The Hulk is the one who risks his life by being the one to use the Infinity Stones to return life to the universe. The act very nearly kills him, and leaves him with one severely damaged arm. Endgame directors the Russo brothers have now confirmed that Hulk won't simply heal from this damage, instead, it's permanent damage that Bruce Banner will have to deal with going forward. Hes lost an arm. He lost Natasha. Thats not coming back. Hes damaged himself. I dont know. Its interesting. Thats permanent damage, the same way that it was permanent damage with Thanos. Its irreversible damage. His arm, if you noticed, is a lot skinnier. Its blackened. So, he loses a lot of strength there.

An Incredible Hulk who has lost a lot of strength is certainly a very different Incredible Hulk. Mark Ruffalo's character is one who we expect will continue forward in the MCU, but this change will go with him.

Joe Russo admits to ComicBook.com there's really no such thing as truly "permanent" when it comes to this sort of thing in Marvel movies. In a world of magic and super advanced science, the possibility for Hulk being healed is certainly there, but the point is that Hulk will need to be actively healed in some way for this damage to go away, he's not simply going to heal if he puts some ointment on it and wraps it in a cast. Also, as Joe Russo puts it, for him the damage is permenant, because it's somebody else's job to figure out what happens next...

Maybe someone helps him repair that. Maybe someone gives him a new arm. I have no idea where that character goes from here. The nice thing is we didnt have to pay attention to where it goes after this, we just try to tell a satisfying ending.

Joe Russo draws something of a parallel between Hulk's arm an Natasha Romanov. Both are gone, seemingly forever. One has left physical scars, the other has certainly done some emotional damage. While the relationship between Bruce Banner and Black Widow was never fully explored on screen, it was made clear that there were feelings there, and Bruce will now have to deal with them without her.

Of course, how the future of the MCU will deal with Hulk is a significant question on its own. Hulk has only been a supporting players in the various Avengers movies and Thor: Ragnarok since Mark Ruffalo took on the role. The only Hulk solo movie in the franchise was the second MCU movie made, and there has been no indication that a Ruffalo-led Hulk movie is even being considered. Marvel Studios shares the film right to the character with Universal, so making a Hulk focused movie is a bit tougher than it is with other characters.

Since the future of Avengers movies is also a big question mark, we have basically no idea wen we'll see Hulk again, or how this change in the character could manifest if and when we do.

Hopefully, we will see more of Mark Ruffalo and the Incredible Hulk very soon. Hopefully Marvel will give us a hint when that might be soon, since the entire future of the MCU is a big black box right now
