Justice League Vs. The Fatal Five Trailer Returns To The Beloved Animated Series

Justice League Vs. The Fatal Five Trailer Returns To The Beloved Animated Series

Long before the Justice League came together in the realm of live-action, they were teaming up and fighting battles in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Those beloved animated series still stand as a high point of storytelling for DC characters, and now fans have a chance to return to that world with Justice League vs The Fatal Five. The new DC Universe animated film brings back some familiar voices for an all-new adventure. Check out the trailer below:

If youre a DC fan of a certain age, you probably got waves of nostalgic feels watching that trailer and hearing those voices. The trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are all voiced in Justice League vs The Fatal Five by the voice actors who brought the characters to life in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. George Newbern as Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and especially Kevin Conroy as Batman just sounds right.

These three have collaborated on various DC video games together, but as far as I can tell, this is the first time this trinity has reunited for a DC Universe animated movie. A return to Bruce Timm's animated DC universe is an exciting prospect, and this trailer teases a fun new adventure for new fans and those that grew up on the Justice League animated series.

This trailer is exciting because we see some new characters joining the iconic trinity. Star Boy, voiced by Elyes Gabel, arrives from the 31st century with the Fatal Five team of supervillains, created by Jim Shooter, hot on his heels. The Fatal Five seem to be holding Metropolis hostage until the Justice League turns over Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, who is the key to their plan.

This is fun because it gives audiences a chance to see new younger heroes like Star Boy and Jessica Cruz fighting alongside the familiar veterans of the Justice League trinity against different foes than the standard Lex Luthors and Jokers of the universe. The trailer also teases that this story has a healthy bit of mystery to it as the Worlds Greatest Detective is trying to suss out the Fatal Fives plan.

The story looks positively action-packed, and as you would expect from a DC Universe animated film, the animation all looks clean and brilliant, adhering to the classic Justice League style. I also appreciated that little bit of humor from Miss Martian at the end of the trailer. Other characters appearing in the story include Mr. Terrific, Brainiac 5 and Saturn Girl.

Justice League vs The Fatal Five is executive produced by Batman: The Animated Series Bruce Timm and is directed by Reign of the Supermen director Sam Liu. There is no official release date yet for the film, but Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is expected to release it on Digital and Blu-ray later this year according to IGN.

Upcoming Stephen King Movies

There are certain authors that Hollywood just can't get enough of, and one of those is Stephen King. Sure, it helps that the guy is one of the most prolific writers of the last 50 years, constantly putting out novels, novellas and short stories, but the reality is that filmmakers never seem to tire of King's particular voice and storytelling. Not even counting TV shows or miniseries, there are more than 40 King film adaptations that have been released in theaters... and there are many more set to come out in the next few years. While you can check out our streaming guide to find the adaptations that have already been made and are currently available, below and across the next few pages we'll dive into the titles that are currently in the works -- be they finished and about to come out, or just announced in the last few months. Read on to learn about all of the upcoming Stephen King movies!

IT: Chapter TwoStatus: FilmingThanks in large part to its impressive length, Stephen King's IT was seen as unadaptable in feature-form for decades -- but then director Andres Muschietti came along and proved everyone wrong. The book's narrative, in which a group of childhood friends must vanquish an evil force that haunts their home town, has been split into two separate halves, and now that the kid-centric IT: Chapter One has been crowned as the biggest horror movie of all time, we are now preparing for the adult-centric sequel, IT: Chapter Two. Muschietti is back at the helm, and set to play the adult versions of The Losers Club are Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, James Ransone, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, and Andy Bean.Release Date: September 6, 2019

Doctor SleepStatus: In Pre-ProductionWhile it's notoriously not one of Stephen King's favorites, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is in most eyes a remarkable masterpiece of psychological terror. That in mind, any follow-up story is certainly going to be the subject of intense scrutiny, but that's just something that Doctor Sleep will have to go through. The book, which was King's 50th novel, follows up with adult Danny Torrence, who has grown up to be an angry alcoholic like his father, and sees the continued development of his psychic abilities with a young girl named Abra, who has similar gifts. Akiva Goldsman, who has some experience with King adaptations having worked on Nicolaj Arcel's The Dark Tower, was hired to pen the adaptation in Spring 2016, but since then Mike Flanagan - who has his own bit of King history with Gerald's Game - has come aboard as director and is doing his own draft. Ewan McGregor is attached to star as Danny, while the rest of the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Chelsea Talmadge, Zahn McClarnon, and Alex Essoe.Release Date: November 8, 2019

The StandStatus: In DevelopmentLike IT, The Stand became a mini-series when it was first adapted back in the 1990s -- once again the source material's length being considered a problem for the film world. Challenges are being damned, however, as Warner Bros. is moving forward with a feature version of the story, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the few survivors of a deadly pandemic find themselves splitting into two factions, following the leadership of two very different individuals. While the project has been delayed a few times, the movie is being written and directed by Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars, New Mutants).

The TalismanStatus: AnnouncedJosh Boone is very clearly a Stephen King fan, as he is not only developing a big screen version of The Stand, but also one of the most recent adaptations that has started to see its gears turning. Announced in mid-October 2017, the writer/director is now working on a take on The Talisman, based on the 1984 book that King co-wrote with Peter Straub. The story centers on 12-year-old Jack Sawyer, whose mother continually keeps moving him all around the country. The reason for this is because she's dying, and in order to save her Jack must go on an adventure in the "Territories" -- a parallel reality where he can find the mystical talisman that will let his mom survive.

RevivalStatus: In DevelopmentNow it's time to discuss the third Stephen King adaptation that Josh Boone is currently cooking up (it makes you wonder how many he'll actually make, but, then again, Frank Darabont made that many). Going back a couple years, Boone has been working on a film version of Revival, with King's 2014 novel serving as source material. Said to have Russell Crowe attached to star the film looks at the story of Charles Jacobs, a charismatic preacher in a small New England town who goes through a crisis of faith following the death of his wife and child, and begins supernatural experiments with electricity as a means of faith healing.

FirestarterStatus: In DevelopmentBlumhouse Productions has become one of the biggest names in horror in recent years, and they are ready to get into the world of Stephen King adaptations with a remake of Firestarter. In the works since Spring 2017, the movie will once again tell the story of a young married couple who have to go on the run to protect their pyrokinetic daughter from a government agency known as The Shop. The original, directed by Mark L. Lester back in 1984, famously stars a young Drew Barrymore, so the new version will have a hill to climb casting that role. Scott Teems, who wrote and directed episodes of the series Rectify, is taking care of the script, while Fatih Akin (In the Fade) is handling directing duties.

Suffer The Little ChildrenStatus: AnnouncedStephen King clearly has a few of his epics in the works, but Suffer The Little Children is based on one of his shorts from Nightmares & Dreamscapes. Changed a bit to fit feature length, the story will follow Miss Emily Sidley, a divorced first grade teacher. She begins to notice that her students are acting a bit strange, and eventually it's revealed that they are not really her students at all, but instead alien creatures that are inhabiting their bodies. Per a September 2017 project announcement, the movie is being made by writer/director Sean Carter.

Drunken FireworksStatus: In DevelopmentDrunken Fireworks is a unique short story in Stephen King's repertoire, if not just because it actually debuted first as an audiobook. It's been published since, in The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, but now it's ready to make another medium change. Set to star and possibly be directed by James Franco, the story is about two neighbors in Maine separated by a lake, but connected by a desire for competition. Each year during the Fourth of July, they both strive to put on the most incredible fireworks display possible. The adaptation was first announced in June 2016.

HeartsStatus: In DevelopmentIn 2001, director Scott Hicks made the Stephen King adaptation Hearts in Atlantis, which is actually based on two of his stories which are not called "Hearts in Atlantis," the King-written short/novella collection that also shares that title. Now, however, that actual story from the book is being made into a film. British director Johannes Roberts signed on to direct the movie in September 2016, which will follow a group of college Freshman during the Vietnam War who find themselves getting completely addicted to the card game Hearts -- only to find it start to totally destroy their lives.

Rose MadderStatus: In DevelopmentDomestic violence is understandably a common element in a lot of Stephen King's work, and in his 1995 novel Rose Madder it is put front and center. An abused woman named Rose realizes that she can't continue her life with her husband, and makes the decision to run away. This is an action fraught with consequences, the biggest being the fact that her vindictive husband chases after her, but it also presents many new opportunities, as well as a strange discovery of what seems to be a magical painting. The film adaptation of this book was announced in Summer 2017, with The Debt helmer Assaf Bernstein attached to direct.

In The Tall GrassStatus: In DevelopmentWith a filmography that includes titles like Cube and Splice, Vincenzo Natali has proven more than a few times that he is quite adept at terrifying an audience, and now it looks like he'll get his chance to do that some more using some Stephen King material. The filmmaker has been developing In The Tall Grass since Spring 2015, based on the novella penned by King and his son, Joe Hill. The story follows a young man and his pregnant sister who stop to try and help when they hear the cries of a young boy coming from the tall grass in a roadside field. Naturally, all that awaits for them in the brush is pure terror.

The TommyknockersStatus: In DevelopmentJames Wan has more than enough credits to be called a modern horror master - but one venture he has not undertaken so far in his career is helming a Stephen King adaptation. That won't exactly happen with The Tommyknockers, based on the author's 1987 novel, but he is on-board as a producer. Set in Maine, this actually leans more toward science-fiction than horror, as it centers on a small neighborhood that is slowly preyed upon by a mysterious extraterrestrial object in the woods.

10 Horror Movies To Watch If You Loved A Quiet Place

10 Horror Movies To Watch If You Loved A Quiet Place

Rejoice, horror fans, because it looks like we have a new classic on our hands. John Krasinski's A Quiet Place has made a serious impression on audiences since its debut over the weekend, and the film's success continues to reinforce the idea that horror is hot right now.

Of course, those of you who have seen A Quiet Place are probably on the hunt for similar horror outings right now. With that in mind (and on the heels of the film's box office success) we have put together a list of horror movies and thrillers that will scratch that particular itch left by Krasinski's terrifying triumph. On that note, let's get started with another beloved horror movie in which sound is the enemy.

Don't BreatheThe main rule of A Quiet Place is incredibly simple: if you make a sound, then you will die. It is easy to understand, and it is also the core premise of the surprise 2016 hit from Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez: Don't Breathe. Focusing its story on a group of burglars who break into the home of a blind man expecting an easy score, the film follows their attempts to escape when they discover that their mark is far more capable (and far scarier) than any of them could've ever imagined. Like A Quiet Place, Don't Breathe offers up the same expert-level sound design, as well as an instantly-iconic villain that navigates and hunts by sound. With a sequel reportedly in the works, this is one you absolutely need to see.

The DescentLike Don't Breathe and A Quiet Place, Neil Marshall's 2005 horror classic, The Descent, similarly follows a group of survivors trying to stay alive in the face of an enemy that hunts by sound. The difference in this movie? The survivors are trapped underground after a cave collapse during a spelunking expedition. The Descent is one of the most visceral, claustrophobic and downright disturbing horror films ever made, and it has most certainly earned its place in the horror hall of fame. The creature design for the subterranean cave dwellers is damn-near perfect, and the movie's deeper level of psychological manipulation elevates it above some of the more traditional monster movies in recent memory. The Descent plays to many of A Quiet Place's best strengths, and it's a must-watch for modern horror fans.

The Girl With All The GiftsIt's no secret that the zombie genre has become incredibly saturated in recent years, and some have begun to feel disillusioned with the style of horror filmmaking as a whole. That's why a film like The Girl with All the Gifts is so intriguing. Set in a dystopian future in which humanity tries to obtain cures to a zombie epidemic from infected children, the film follows a group of survivors as they attempt to navigate the English countryside and sneak through hordes of infected that go dormant and only respond to sound. The Girl with All the Gifts essentially combines the best DNA of 28 Days Later and A Quiet Place into one terrifying mixture, and it's one of the few zombie movies in recent memory to do something new with the genre.

Attack The BlockA Quiet Place mainly takes place in the American wilderness, with a story focusing on a family trying to survive on a remote farm. That said, 2011's Attack the Block showcased what the genre could do by showing a similar alien invasion set in the confines of urban England. Featuring a cast anchored by a pre-The Force Awakens John Boyega, Attack the Block has become widely regarded as one of the more fun (albeit still incredibly disturbing) creature features of the decade. The creatures don't hunt by sound in the movie, but they stand right alongside the monsters from A Quiet Place in terms of the sheer amount of terror that they can generate in a captive audience. If ravenous beasts are your forte, then this is one you need to check out.

Wait Until DarkHorror movies often serve as a way to tell us just how much we take our sense for granted. A Quiet Place does so by including a deaf character in a world where sound is the enemy, and Terrence Young's 1967 thriller Wait Until Dark does the same thing by centering its story on a blind woman (Audrey Hepburn) attempting to stay alive when a team of criminals breaks into her home in an attempt to steal a doll full of heroin. Revolutionary for its time (and still incredibly effective to this very day), Wait Until Dark has become widely regarded as one of the most iconic scary movies ever made, regularly making lists ranking the best movies of all time. It has paved the way for some modern classics, including A Quiet Place.

HushAs if it wasn't bad enough that A Quiet Place's monsters have a keen sense of sound, the situation for the central family is made even more challenging due to the fact that their daughter is deaf. That's a vital story element, and it's quite similar to the narrative of Netflix's Hush, a film about a deaf woman fighting back against a masked killer in her remote home. Both films rely heavily on their protagonist's deafness to put them at a disadvantage against their assailants, and both eventually have the protagonists realize how their perceived handicap can actually help them survive in these life or death scenarios. Hush is one of the most deeply-satisfying home invasion thrillers in recent memory, and the DNA that it shares with A Quiet Place is pretty much impossible to ignore.

NosferatuOf course, no discussion of A Quiet Place would be complete without addressing the fact that much of it actually plays like an old-fashioned silent film. The movie operates with little-to-no dialogue for the bulk of its runtime, and if that particular style of horror filmmaking captures your interest, then there are few scary movies from the silent era that work better than Nosferatu. Easily one of the most recognizable and iconic horror films ever made (the imagery of Max Shreck as the titular vampire has become a mainstay of pop culture), Nosferatu's silence plays a huge role in how scary and disturbing it is, thus making it a fantastic choice to double feature with A Quiet Place. Just make sure that you don't watch it alone; it's that unsettling.

Silent HouseThough 2011's Silent House doesn't feature any monsters in the traditional sense, it is an incredibly solid (and arguably underrated) thriller that gains much of its strength from a powerhouse lead performance by Elizabeth Olsen. A remake of a Uruguayan film, Silent House follows a young woman attempting to stay alive in her childhood vacation home when a stranger comes to the property to terrorize her. Much of the story follows her attempts to remain quiet and stay out of sight as she navigates the landscape, and the film employs interesting camera tricks in order to fake the look of a single-take story. Silent House flew under the radar when it first debuted back in 2011, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of tense thrillers.

Jurassic ParkThough John Krasinski reportedly looked to Jaws as a major source of inspiration in his creation of the tension and sense of dread in A Quiet Place, there's also another Steven Spielberg classic that Krasinski borrowed DNA from: Jurassic Park. Both films share a palpable sense of claustrophobia in their most intense sequences, and many of the best scenes on the farm in A Quiet Place feel like they owe considerable credit to the showstopper kitchen sequence from Jurassic Park,_in which the two kids find themselves cornered by a pair of velociraptors. Beyond that, _Jurassic Park is also a PG-13 outing that relies on implied violence and atmosphere to establish its sense of horror, which makes it a near-perfect double feature to watch with the family after A Quiet Place.

AlienThey say that in space, nobody can hear you scream. While that may have made for a badass tagline for Ridley Scott's Alien, reality could not be further from the truth. This is an absolutely terrifying creature feature, and it's pretty much guaranteed to get a few screams out of even the most seasoned horror veteran. Though it takes place on Earth, A Quiet Place clearly takes many cues from Alien, particularly in the way that it uses a less-is-more approach regarding its restraint in showing the monsters. Moreover, both films effectively used sound (and the absence of it) to build tension in the lead-up to an attack. Make no mistake, if you liked A Quiet Place, then there's no excuse not to see the first-ever Xenomorph adventure.
